Penned and presented at a POW/MIA remembrance ceremony in dedication to those whose fate has been capture or missing in action.

Lest We Forget ©

They are missing now, who fought with us

Who laughed and loved and lived

We know not what their fate has been

But to them honor give

And those unknown are not alone

In loss we bear at home

The grief we feel extends to those

No longer free to roam

To those held captive, bodies broken

Surviving each new day

Who stay the course through torture’s pain

Their country, not betray

Time loses meaning, day brings night

The sameness settles in

Til cells are opened, chains removed

A new life to begin

A hero’s welcome to those come home

Who know well, “how to be”

 Grasping full, what others don’t

That...freedom isn’t free
